My lovely friend Megh came up to me the other day. She said “I bought a pair of jeans and they’re too loose, but only in the thighs” (if only we all had that problem right ladies?) She said she looked at my tutorial, but didn’t know how to take in her jeans in only one place.
Problem Solved. Here’s how to take in your pants in only one place, whether that be your thighs, the waist, the knees, or the calves (to make them into skinnies). This is also the end of….
I lied. I did get one picture of the butt before. In these pictures I had pinned the right side, and not the left. It shows the subtle, but not insignificant different a little here and a little there can make.
Now You Try It!
Step 1. Put your jeans on inside out
Step 2. Start pinning where it DOES fit you, like the waist, or the top of the hip. Pin AT the seam. Gradually take in more and more following the curves of your legs. Once you get to the knees, begin gradually angling your pins back out until they meet the original seam again. In simple terms, start by taking in a little, then take in more, then less, then a little again.
Before I forget we did one other thing to these jeans. Megh has such a petite waist that most jeans get that big gap at the top. You know the one.
She asked me “Should I remove the waistband and do it the “right” way like you showed in your tutorial?”…..
Why, you ask? Because Jeans are thick. The pants I did that on were a thinner twill and it worked great, but the way the jeans are made, and the way the waistband is attached it would be way more effort than its worth. So what do we do?
Butt Darts. Yes, that’s the technical term (just kidding, it’s not) All we did was put them on inside out, pin the darts (or eyeball it) and stitch them up. And Voila! A great fit for a skinny waistline.
I hope this has been helpful.
As always, please feel free to send me your questions, troubles, philosophic queries, etc… maybe not the philosophical queries, maybe just clothing or sewing questions? Yes, lets stick with that. 🙂
Have a great day everyone!
